White Seeded Bread Plait

You just can't beat freshly baked bread. And I love any freshly baked bread. Today I've tried a plait smothered in seeds. It's your basic white bread recipe with a difference. When cut, the slices look like lovely fluffy clouds - the perfect bread for lunch!

Ingredients:
500g strong white bread flour
1 sachet of yeast
1 and a half teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon olive oil
350ml luke warm water
1 egg for egg wash
Handful of favourite seeds. I used sesame, sunflower and pumpkin

HOW TO MAKE:
Mix flour, yeast, salt, sugar and olive oil in a large bowl. Slowly mix in the water until a dough is formed. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for at least 10 minutes. Place in a clean, oiled bowl and cover with oiled cling film and leave to prove for 1 hour in a warm place.
Once your dough is twice the size, knock back and divide into 5 pieces. Now work the pieces into long sausage shapes. Place them on a oiled and floured baking tray and plait. Cover with oiled clingfilm and leave to rise for another hour.
Now your dough has risen again, preheat the oven to it's highest temperature. For a good crust, put a tray of water in the bottom of the oven. Gently remove the clingfilm and brush with egg wash. Sprinkle the seeds on and bake for 10 minutes at the oven's highest setting. After 10 minutes, turn down to 200C and bake for a further 20 minutes.
Once baked, cool on a wire rack and enjoy!

  1. I've never cooked with yeast before, and I'd like to try this recipe. What kind of yeast did you use? Instant yeast or active dried yeast? Thanks!

    1. I always use Hovis Fast Action Bread Yeast in 7g sachets. It's a blend of dried yeast and bread improvers, so there's no need to activate it in water first. Hope this helps you out! Enjoy your freshly baked bread!
